LPG vs Natural Gas | SHIVGAS

Key Differences Between LPG Gas and Natural Gas

Are you confused between LPG gas and Natural gas, which one is better? With the increase in the demand for cleaner fuel, LPG and natural gas have become two reliable alternatives to traditional cooking fuels. However, natural gas and LPG is chemically different gas. LPG is the acronym for liquefied petroleum gas, the chemical formula is C3H8 which contains propane and butane, while natural gas methane and the chemical formula is CH4.

Both have been used as an alternative to petrol and diesel, however, LPG gas is much more efficient in many cases. Today we will discuss the differences and how LPG gas agencies are helping in providing cleaner gas to every household.

Key Difference between LPG Gas and Natural gas

Energy Content

LPG has higher energy content in comparison to natural gas. Natural gas has a heat content of 38.7MJ/m3 while LPG has 93.2MJ/m3.

The higher calorific value and energy content, ensure a lesser amount of LPG gas required compared to natural gas for the same amount of heat.

Easier To Transport

LPG gas is liquefied petroleum gas and can be easily stored in cylinders and transported to every corner of India. The LPG gas agency caters to the demand for LPG gas by making a distribution network in villages and cities.

Whereas natural gases are transported through pipelines, it is not feasible to use for cooking at remote places, as this requires proper planning and construction of infrastructures.

The difference in the Extraction Method

Natural gas is extracted from below the ground. There are 6,289 trillion cubic feet of natural gas reserves all over the world. To extract the oil from beneath the ground the above-ground infrastructure is built.

Hydraulic fracturing, horizontal drilling, and acidizing are some of the processes to extract natural gas from the oil reserves. A process like hydraulic fracturing which is also known as fracking requires a huge quantity of water and may cause micro-earthquakes due to the breakage of underwater pipelines or cables.

Whereas, LPG is a by-product of oil refining of petroleum or wet natural gas. LPG is modified into an ambient temperature so it can be stored and transported to different locations. It is extracted from two sources, around 60% is extracted from raw natural gas, and 40% is from crude oil refinery process. In the process of fractional distribution, propane, butane, isobutane, and the mixture of gases are included in LPG.

The extraction process of LPG is cleaner in comparison to natural gas, as LPG is a by-product of crude oil and natural gas refining procedures.

Cost-Effectiveness

LPG is cheaper in comparison to natural gas. LPG can be easily bottled and shipped to any corner of the world, while natural gas has to be transported via pipeline. That said, LPG is cheaper in transportation and does not require any infrastructure for gas connection. While natural gas is transported via pipelines and requires a vaporizer and pipeline connection for use as cooking fuel at home.

Even in comparison to cost, LPG is much cheaper than natural gas. Due to cost hiking in both gases, LPG is considered a much cheaper option.

Conclusion

LPG is something that exists naturally in nature, clean-burning, portable, and versatile in use. LPG is much better than natural gas. Adaptation of LPG is easier than natural gas for household cooking and this has led to a decrease in dependency on wood, coal, or kerosene for household cooking in villages, towns, and cities. We at SHIVGAS LPG Gas Agency ensure the customer gets unadulterated LPG from the leading private gas agency at a cost-effective price.
