Liquefied petroleum gas, or LPG, has become an integral part of almost every Indian household. The number of connections a gas agency offers is increasing day by day, as it is the most reliable source of energy for not just domestic and commercial kitchens but also for industrial applications as well. The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas claims that the total number of LPG connections has increased by over 100% over the last decade, marking up to 32.83 crore in 2024.
There are various reasons why individuals might need to transfer their gas connection between agencies. The reason is very simple. Relocating to a new city or neighborhood creates the necessity for such a shift so that they can enjoy continuous access to cooking fuel. Another reason might as well be that some consumers may seek better service quality or price quotation from a gas company.
This article gives insights on how individuals can shift their gas connection between agencies in India and how they can benefit from it in the long run.
Transferring an LPG connection in India is done in a very systematic way, where the process is governed by specific eligibility criteria and conditions.
Any registered LPG consumer can initiate a transfer of their connection. These transfers are permissible under selective circumstances only.
To facilitate a valid transfer, you should have to meet certain requirements.
LPG connection transfer can be categorized into two types.
When you visit a gas agency to transfer your LPG connection, you will have to submit some important documents.
Are you planning to shift your LPG connection to any other dealership within the city? Then the process is really easy and hassle-free.
Start your connection transfer process by first visiting your existing gas distributor with your original subscription voucher and consumer number. Inform them about your relocation within the city and request a transfer to a gas agency servicing in or near your new address.
Complete all the transfer procedures as provided by your current distributor and submit all necessary documents, including your ID proof and new address proof.
After the request has been processed, the distributor will issue a Transfer Advice document, which is usually valid for three months and authorizes the transfer to a new distributor.
Visit the new gas agency dealership and present the transfer advice along with your subscription voucher, address proof, and Domestic Gas Consumer Card (DGCC) booklet. After verification of all the documents, you will finally be provided with a new subscription voucher with a new consumer number.
When you think of settling in a new city for your work purpose or any other reason, getting a gas agency who would supply you with a daily dose of fuel might include a lot of paperwork. Now, that’s a complete misconception. With the right planning, it can be as smooth as how you place a cube of butter in a heated pan.
Visit your current gas agency and submit a written request for a termination voucher, stating your intent to relocate.
After surrendering the equipment, collect your termination voucher and any applicable security deposit refund.
Find a reliable gas agency, present your termination voucher and address proof documents, and submit a request for a new gas connection.
After all formalities have been completed, your new distributor will provide you with a new cylinder and regulator.
